Who are you?

Ethan Everett, Senior, Computer Engineering

Who is your employer?

BMW
Munich, Germany

How did you learn about your internship?

Classmate who was a former intern at BMW.

What was the application process like?

Direct contact via e-mail including my resume, followed by a brief phone interview (10-15 minutes). Networking certainly helped in my case.

What were your major tasks or projects at this internship?

- Technology scouting (finding examples of different technologies and finding examples)
- Creating a demo for an internal fair displaying recent advances in human-machine interaction.

Do you have any recommendations for Georgia Tech students looking to intern in the same company or country?

German skills are not necessary within the company, but are beneficial to be fully integrated with the team. Germany itself is quite easy to adjust to, and almost no language skills are needed.

Where did you live? Did you find accomodations independently or with your company's help?

Apartment owned by BMW.

How has this internship influenced your career path?

It has emphasized the importance of company culture for me when looking for jobs, but has also shown me that the skills I've learned are applicable in many different subject areas, not necessarily just the ones I've been focused on.

If paid, did the company you worked for pay you enough to live off of your salary or stipend, or did you have to supplement your income with personal funds?

Received a special exemption for BMW to cover my housing and flight costs, but the total pay was still quite low given the cost of living in Munich. I had to supplement my income with personal funds for anything beyond food, transport, and other basics.
