Who is your employer?
NTT
Yokosuka, Japan
How did you learn about your internship?
CareerBuzz.
What was the application process like?
The most troublesome part would be the online submission of both resume and cover letter. After that everything seems smoothly proceeded. The interview is not as difficult as long as you have really something related to the field your applied for.
What were your major tasks or projects at this internship?
My major task was to help immigrate old video/ image compression techniques into evolutionary ones.
Do you have any recommendations for Georgia Tech students looking to intern in the same company or country?
The Japanese company culture is relatively inflexible. And the Japanese I think should be a must if one would like to explore Japan to its best.
Where did you live? Did you find accomodations independently or with your company's help?
It really doesn't matter where you live in the city since the company have free shuttles that take you to all of their production sites outside the city. Since Vietnam is my home country, I lived with my parents during the time I was there.
How has this internship influenced your career path?
It helps me to clear my mind on what I want to and should try more.
If paid, did the company you worked for pay you enough to live off of your salary or stipend, or did you have to supplement your income with personal funds?
I think the place I live does not require too much of spending. While it would be a different story if I want to go travelling a lot.
